Hello All,
Although EJS sounds like a lot of fun and a good learning experience I am not into huge crowds. Is EJS the start of the high season and ramping up of hotel rates. I may get a chance to introduce the family to Moab in the next few weeks.

I would say the start of the high season for wheeling would be President's Day weekend. From what I've heard for this year it's all uphill from there!

I don't think they start quite as early as President's Day weekend. We got cheap rates for that weekend.

Well, shortly after President's Day, then. I was talking to the people at Sunflower Hill the other day, and they said everyone has mentioned that the season seems to be starting early this year.

It probably is tied to the Safari, which is tied to Easter, which comes early this year. When Safari moves away from Easter, it will be interesting to see what happens.

most places jack up the rates for easter week then drop them back down right after. We watched motel 6 a couple of years ago go from 39.95 the day before the safari to 99.99 during the safari to 39.95 Easter sunday night on their sign in front of the building

I may get a chance to introduce the family to Moab in the next few weeks. Jim In my personal experience, most of the hotels don't really have any rhyme or reason to their rates except to stick it to you. The Aarchway Inn is the exception, their rates go up March 1st and then drop November 1st. I know that the Best Western Canyonlands Inn is still cheap in March, up till EJS of course. The best thing I've found is to find an online phone book or a Moab paper and just start calling around. It also seems that if you call the 800 numbers for the chain hotels, you will get a cheaper rate.

You can usually get the best rate if you book online
