Well I had a good time in Moab again this year. Although I did run into some complications.
Let's see, got into town Wednesday and swapped out my flat tow tires and put my Swampers on. Went to Dump Bump and a guy had broken/seperated his drivers side ball joints, so that was going to take him a while to get moved so I went to Potato Salad Hill. It was kinda cold and rainy so I just watched, and got to see the red Comando go over and over and over. I've drove up that hill several times in the past, but you witness a good rollover like that, and now I'm thinking it is'nt absolutely necessary for me to do that one again......maybe next year.
Thursday I ran into Greenjeep down town and got to meet him and ColoradoXJ. I was good to put some faces with some names.
Friday, this is were it gets good. We are getting ready to leave for Fins with the Safari group. You know, the crazyness of getting two kids ready and so on. So I have the car warming up and my wife needed to put the cooler in the back so I turn the car off take the keys and start to open the hatch. The car trys to roll forward so I reach in the drivers side and put it into 1st (no E-brake). Go back and open the hatch, put the cooler in and closed the hatch. Not thinking I reach in, put the key in and fire it up forgetting it was in 1st gear. It starts instantly and had about a good 6 foot run on high idle into the back of my truck Not one of my finer moments. Now I know my winch bumper is fairly stout.
We run Fins in the rain/snow/sleet/etc, and the whole time the car was running crummy, and this is a car that usually runs AWESOME, but no not that day. We finished up the trail and went back to the motel. I figured I better get a carb kit, some cleaner and new filters in order to get it to run right.
Saturday morning I went out and pulled the carb off and rebuilt it on my mangled tailgate Put the carb back on and it ran great again. We went and ran Poison Spider Mesa trail up to the whoops, and turned around about a mile past the wedgie. We met a group of guys in a Ford Bronco and had a great time with them. It was a good day.
Sunday swapped tires again, and headed home. On the way home one of the front tires on the truck broke a belt and was hopping off the ground at 65mph, so I mounted the spare and finished the trip.
Like usual the trip was way to short, next year I'll be down for the whole week!
