On Saturday, MamaBronco, YellowBronco, XJchic, myself and a couple other RR4W members pre-ran Strike Ravine. It was the first time for most of us, but it's a good trail, and we had fun.
We started out by going out to Area BFE (Jeremy Parriot's land which is adjacent to Kiley Miller's land) and Jeremy showed us where his rock crawling courses are and how we can avoid them (he is having a competion Rock Race on Easter weekend, and the Strike Ravine trail goes by close to some of his courses). After that we headed out and ran the trail the normal way, north to south.
Everything went fine except there are still some road blocks and large rocks blocking the roads going into Kiley's property from the north. The south end is pretty clear except for a barbed wire gate. Much of the trail is lined on both sides with dead trees or a wire fence. There are "Respect Private Property" and similar signs about every 100 yards through her property. I know the signs and fences are ok, but something needs to be done about the road blocks. There are two differant routes into her property from the north, so we took the boulder-strewn way and avoided the roadblock.
Hee are a couple pics of the road as it enters her property.
This is the road we did drive through, notice all the strategically placed rocks.
Otherwise the trail was pretty uneventful, except for when I wasn't paying enough attention and swung too wide around a corner and my back tire slid off the trail almost rolling me.
I've had a rough time this last three weeks with staying on my tires: I almost roll on Steelbender, I do roll on Moab Rim, and again almost on Strike Ravine!! I REALLY hope I can get this out of my system before Safari!!!
Tha trail was fun and if you haven't done it, I would for sure recommend it. It is a nice fit between boring and scary, it's rated a 3 1/2. The trail is fairly short, it took us less than 5 hours with quite a few stops. But it has lots of turns and side roads, so I wouldn't suggest it unless you go with someone who knows it.
Anyway, after we finished we still had some daylight to kill so MamaBronco, YellowBronco, XJchic, and I headed over to the sand dunes by Behind the Rocks. We had a great time blasting through the dunes, I even found a shovel!! We were having a blast until YellowBronco got a bit over-zealous with the skinny pedal and popped a wheelie all the way up a dune. The landing was a bit rough and took out his front passenger Dana 44 U-joint and damageing the ears on his axle shaft. So we called it a day. After that we headed into town for some well deserved Milts!!
