Hi everyone, we are just wondering what kind of things one should bring when they are down there? We know the general things but we were wondering about how much extra gas one would need, mosquito repellents, or about other such creatures like scorpions and or snakes. We are doing the "Hole in the rock" so we understand that we can trailer the vehicles there and then leave the tow vehicle there. Is there a secure spot for this or is a misunderstanding? Any help would be great. Thanks again.

Bring LOTS of water. You should be drinking a gallon a day down here. It's always safe to bring an extra 5-10 gallons of gas, although I've never met anyone who has actually run out of gas on the trail (I'm sure it happens, but we always fill up before we leave). Mosquitos aren't bad during the day, it's too hot, but if you're camping it wouldn't hurt. We haven't ever seen scorpions, although I guess they are around, just hiding, and snakes aren't hanging around very often either. As for the parking spot. . .I'm not sure. Anyone else know?

The main thing to remember is that Hole in the Rock is VERY remote. Bring an extra 5 gallons of fuel if you can't travel 2 full days on a tank. Like XJChic said, bring lots of water, plenty of food, and tools and whatever spare parts you normally carry. Thunderstorms are common this time of year, so a change of clothes, a warm jacket, and rain gear is a good idea. Bring sunscreen, a hat, good shoes, first aid kit, and other common sense items. I HAVE seen scorpions on the Hole in the Rock trail, and rattlesnakes on several Moab trails (although both are pretty rare). I know that trailer parking is available, but I don't know how "secure" it is.
