Thanks for the information. At least I know I have options, but $600 in lodging for 3-4 days might make this cost prohibitive.
It is really overkill for a young single guy who won't use (or care) about any of the ammenities, come home late at night, crash, and go out the next day. I was hoping for a motel 6 / holiday inn at the high end.
I might have to explore the camping option. Does the weather allow it? Can a quick trip to wal-mart pick up the gear?

Have you tried the campgrounds, KOA, Slickrock, others... to see if they have a cabin available? Prolly too late, but worth a try. They're cheap. If those are full you could always tent it. Sucks if there's a storm, but rest assured there will be many there to share the misery.
I'd always tow if that's an option. Good luck and see ya there.

Yes but most if not all the lodging places in town jack their prices up well over $100. I might have to explore the camping option. Does the weather allow it? Can a quick trip to wal-mart pick up the gear? Wal-mart will work, you can find what you need there, plus it's cheaper. Not always the highest quality, and I would DEFINITELY recommend like an outdoor specialty store or something. . . Camping spots are filling up fast too. Believe it or not, people camp no matter what the weather allows. They have a place to sleep.

just make sure if you decide on camping that you do prepare for cold and wet just in case - its usually nice but you'd be very unhappy if it got icky and you didnt' have warm stuff and if you're towing you'll have the packing room

I agree, let's try the camping. What do I need to pick up at walmart? How much should I spend? Speaking of bad storms, if it snows/rains, I'll let the other people sit outside in misery. I'll pick up the tent and pitch it inside the cargo van /tow rig -- this has got to be better than being outside in snow/rain, right? . Hell, you can fit a twin bed in it -- but sleeping in a cargo van... just wrong by so many accounts. Ok, what kind of camping gear do I need to buy? What about showers? What about privacy to cahnge in the morning? Will there be a bunch of other Jeepers in the same area to at least chat with / maybe share a bondfire? Can I park a 16 foot trailer and van down by the camping spots while I'm there? And leave it there? If you guys want to see something humourous, well, read this. I e-mailed central reservations about room availability and here is what they had to say. It's interesting how a luxurous bed and breakfast with nice rooms and good service charges only $20 more than the gouging motel 6 on certain days. $~100 for motel 6? What? On the 16th, river canyon lodge is only $69 while motel 6 is $100 too! Hello xxxxxx and thank you for your inquiry. Your rates at Motel 6 April 8 - 11 are $94.95 plus tax per night, April 12 - 16 are $128.95 plus tax per night. I also checked with River Canyon Lodge for you as their rates are a bit less. April 8 - 11 $89.00 plus tax per night, April 12 - 15 $129.00 plus tax per night and April 16 is $69.00 plus tax. You may want to check our websites at www.rivercanyonlodge.com and www.motel6moab.com and compare the two. If you would like to make a reservation at either property please submit your credit card information, including expiration date, your home address and phone number by replying to this message and I'll respond with your confirmation code.

When I motel it in Moab my #1 choice is the Red Stone Inn. www.moabredstone.com/Great location, mini-kitchens, and good price generally. My second choice is the bighorn: www.moabbighorn.com/It's location is across the street from the red stone, It's two story so not as convenient, also a little higher.

these hotels plan around huge events like this - the rates go up for the event and go down after tent, sleeping bag, water containers, cooler, food, sunscreen, rain gear, i prefer hiking boots and tevas for footwear, beanie, bandana, the list goes on lol. check out www.discovermoab.com for public shower options
